Chicken Thukpa is a hearty and flavorful Tibetan noodle soup that’s perfect for cold days. Using an Instant Pot makes the cooking process faster and more convenient. Here’s a simple recipe for Chicken Thukpa using the magic of the Instant Pot:



  • 1 lb boneless, skinless chicken thighs or breasts, cut into bite-sized pieces
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1-inch ginger, grated
  • 1 carrot, julienned
  • 1 bell pepper, thinly sliced
  • 1 cup cabbage, shredded
  • 1 cup mushrooms, sliced (optional)
  • 1 teaspoon ground turmeric
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon ground coriander
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder (adjust according to spice preference)
  • 8 cups chicken broth
  • 200 grams thukpa noodles or any other noodles of your choice
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Fresh cilantro, chopped, for garnish
  • Lime wedges for serving



  1. Set Instant Pot to Sauté:
    • Set the Instant Pot to “Sauté” mode and add vegetable oil. Once hot, add chopped onions, garlic, and grated ginger. Sauté until the onions are translucent.
  2. Add Chicken:
    • Add the chicken pieces and cook until they are browned on all sides.
  3. Add Vegetables:
    • Stir in julienned carrots, sliced bell peppers, shredded cabbage, and mushrooms (if using). Sauté for a couple of minutes until the vegetables begin to soften.
  4. Spices:
